The VI peels are some of the best chemical peels for skin brightening. The peels are designed to improve global signs of aging. They are best suited for patients looking for improvement in skin clarity and texture. The VI “peel” actually consists of 6 different formulations, each targeting different skin concerns, from sun damage to melasma to acne scarring. Dr. Prischmann, in collaboration with our experienced advanced practice esthetician, Amy Nelson, tailor VI Peel treatments to your skin’s unique requirements and your overall skincare goals.
What Are VI Peels?
VI Peels are medium depth chemical peels known for their consistent results and predictable downtimes. These innovative peels are formulated with a low concentration of Trichloroacetic Acid (TCA), Phenol, Retinoic Acid (Vitamin A), Salicylic Acid, and Vitamin C. The individual peels also have additional ingredients (see Table 1). The exception to this is the VI body peel, which contains a unique blend of acids, phenol, allantoin, and aloe vera.
After a thorough consultation in our office, we can help you determine which peel is best for your individual skin concerns.

Candidates For VI Peel
Ideal candidates for VI Peel are those seeking improvement in skin tone and texture. VI peel can also be used as a maintenance peel for skin health. VI Peels are great treatments because there are six custom peels that can treat virtually all skin types. The VI peel has downtime, so patients should be prepared for active peeling.
Preparing For VI Peel
All patients have a consultation prior to receiving the VI Peel. We discuss allergies and other historical factors to discern if the peel is not a good option. We also discuss your personal history of skin conditions to see if we can safely perform the treatment. If you are on Accutane, for example, we cannot perform this peel. Also, if you have a history of skin picking, we do not recommend this peel.
Once you are considered a good candidate, we typically recommend discontinuing all exfoliating treatments 72 hours prior to peel. Exfoliating treatments include Vitamin A products and hydroxy acids. We also prescribe antiviral medications to prevent post-peel cold sore outbreaks.
The VI Peel Treatment
The VI Peel treatment is a virtually pain-free procedure. The treatment takes about 30 minutes. Patients can expect to feel some mild tingling.
The treatment begins with a thorough skin cleanse and prep to remove oil and impurities. Next, the peel commences. The peel solution is applied to the skin using mild pressure. The solution can be applied in multiple layers, increasing the penetration of the peel. Once the desired outcome is achieved, the treatment is complete. The peel solution is left on the skin for the first 4 hours. The patient is given instructions on how to remove the peel at home.
Post VI Peel Care
Most VI peels are medium depth peels. This means that the patient can expect to have active peeling between day 3 and 7 after the treatment. The VI peel provides post-peel skin care products to properly care for treated skin. There is also an excellent cell phone application that can help educate patients on what to expect each day after the peel.
Mild discomfort, redness and peeling are expected after the peel. If you experience increasing pain or redness, please contact us so we can properly assess your progress.
